23 People Drowned After Overloaded Wedding-Party Bus Falls Into A Flooded River (Kenya; ~12/2021; 1 Video Of Disaster, 3 Videos Of Rescue And Body Recovery, And Story Included)
"The driver of the bus, where 23 people got killed, had waited for nearly two hours before he made the decision to cross a river in Kenya. Though some of the wedding attendees stated they were getting late for the occasion, the driver insisted that he was not familiar with the bridge, hence, expressed fears of crossing. A survivor, S.K, told that the driver got confident after two vehicles and some contractors crossed the flooded river. Some travellers who were stranded by the river banks also hopped onto the bus with the hope of getting a lift to the other side. "We were about 40 passengers when leaving in the morning. Around 10 seats were empty. As we were crossing the river, the 51-seater bus was full with more than 15 people standing," the survivor told. He said that he was pulled out through the window by one of the divers who rushed to the scene to save lives. "I felt a hand grab my shoulder and pull me out through the window. I thank God for sparing my life," he added.
As of Saturday evening, 23 bodies had been retrieved and 10 survivors had been rushed to the Hospital. Officers from the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) have since been deployed to help with the rescue mission. Preliminary reports indicated that members of the bridal party, her three children and two grandchildren, were also on the bus. This is a river and it was flooding. The driver lost control and slid into a ditch. The bus capsized next to the bridge. The driver has also died."

An amusement park boat has sunk in Iraq's Tigris River, killing at least 100 people, according to Iraqi state television. The passengers were celebrating Nowruz, a joyous holiday marking the new year at the start of spring.
Video footageΒ showed people being carried away in the water's fast current as onlookers shout from a nearby theme park.
NPR's Jane Arraf reports that many of the dead were children.Β At least 55 people were rescued.
The flat-bottomed boat, which operates from a platform at an amusement park in the once Islamic State-controlled city of Mosul, capsized, throwing hundreds of passengers in the river near the shore. Many people couldn't swim.
The mayor says he had warned the owners last week that the boat needed repairs.
The vessel did not appear to have life vests on board, according to authorities.
And the water level had also reportedly risen in recent days from rains, snow melting off nearby mountains and developments at theΒ Mosul dam. Authorities had alerted people to be cautious.

Local architect Francisco Monarrez took charge Friday afternoon to make sure the gaping hole was covered.
Monarrez paid $1,500 Mexican pesos, about $75, to purchase the materials and close friends assisted him in placing a temporary metal grate over the sewer.

Videos circulating on social media platforms shed light on the desperate struggle of the 36-year-old man as he attempted to board the ship, engaging in a dispute with individuals from the ship's crew.
Eyewitnesses aboard the F/B ELYROS, which was docked next to the Blue Horizon at the port of Piraeus, observed the harrowing incident firsthand.
News website Protothema.gr reached out to Froso Tetrandonaki, a passenger on the βELYROSβ who was on the deck of the ship at the time of the incident.
βMany people were on the ELYROS deck for a smoke and witnessed the incident clearly. She saw the crew members of the βBlue Horizon' pushing the man into the sea. They pushed him three or four times before the ship's gangway was raised,β Tetrandonaki said.
The witness said that approximately 10 minutes after the man fell into the sea, she saw his lifeless body floating in the water.
βAt that moment, I called the Coast Guard and made an anonymous report about the incident. βThey pushed the man into the sea, and he drowned. They killed him,' were the words I conveyed to the authorities,β she said, visibly shaken. She noted that the man's body remained afloat for about 30 minutes before it was recovered.
