The video shows that the attackers, who were in a VW Fox model vehicle, tried to run over Luiz Henrique and, after he was lightly hit and tried to escape, he was chased, run over and shot. Despite his injuries, Luiz Henrique resisted and clashed with one of the attackers, managing to escape.

Moments later, those responsible for the attack returned to the scene to collect objects lying in the street. The car used was later found abandoned near a rural road, with evidence of an exchange of gunfire as the occupants fled.

Gun cases and blood marks were found inside the car, as well as bullet holes and the vehicle's documents, which could help with the investigation. The police also recovered the vehicle's original license plates from the trunk. The car was taken to the local police station for investigations into the attempted murder.

Fire Department rescuers treated the victim and took him to the Municipal Hospital in serious condition. Authorities are carrying out investigations to identify and capture the attackers, as well as determine the motives for the attack.

30 March 2023

DECATUR, Ill. (WCCU) — The Decatur Police Department on Thursday released bodycam video and the names of two officers involved in a shooting while they were responding to a domestic violence call last month.

On March 30th, officers said they fired their weapons during the domestic violence call in the 400 block of East Orchard Street. According to reports, the suspect had a knife and was threatening a juvenile and eventually stabbed a mom.

Police released the video showing what officers saw as they confronted Steven Hirstein, 43.

"The two officers that fired the weapons are Officer Dawson Roberts, and he is a 1-year veteran with the Decatur Police Department, and then Officer Joseph Oberheim is an 8-year veteran at the Decatur Police Department,” said Chief Shane Brandle of the Decatur Police Department.

Three other officers were on scene but did not discharge their weapons. Those officers were Jack Kosinski, Jordan Jinks, and Joseph Sawyer.

According to the bodycam footage, before Hirstein barges through the door, officers could see a knife sheath near the bathroom door, along with the stab wounds on the mother, and both signaled to police the suspect was armed.

The video shows officer Oberheim telling Hirstein to come out with his hands up; instead, Hirstein bursts through the door and throws a knife with his right hand at police, which can be seen from the angle of officer Kosinski's body camera footage.

It is in the next few seconds that police see the second knife in Hirstein's left hand, making him still a threat. As he charged at officers with the knife, police fired their weapons, according to the video footage.

After officers took their shots, you can hear in the video officer Roberts say, “'He threw a knife.'”

In the final moments, the footage shows officers going in to detain Hirstein after the shots were fired and removing the second knife from his possession.

Chief Brandel says at this time he does not see any wrong-doing from the officers involved, but he will reserve final judgment until the investigation is over.

Illinois State Police and Decatur police both continue to investigate this incident.

Chief Brandel also confirmed that Officer Joseph Oberheim is the brother of Champaign Police Officer Chris Oberheim who lost his life in the line of duty back in 2021 also during a domestic violence call.

Brandel said he has spoken to the Oberheim family since the incident and that they are doing “remarkably well” given the circumstances.

DECATUR, Ill. (WCIA) — Decatur Police Chief Shane Brandel said Steven Hirstein has been released from the hospital and is now in police custody.

Hirstein was booked into the Macon County Jail on charges of attempted murder, aggravated domestic battery and aggravated assault.

Follow-up:

https://herald-review.com/news/local/public_safety/attempted-murder-defendant-wants-early-trial-date/article_7b56fb5c-e9ed-11ed-9d69-8f8784c180cf.html

DECATUR — Steven L. Hirstein appeared eager to set an early date so a jury can decide whether he tried to stab his girlfriend to death before he was shot and wounded after using his knife to attack the cops who had arrived to confront him.

Hirstein's defense attorney, Chris Amero, told Macon County Circuit Court Judge Lindsey Shelton on Wednesday that he had already received all the copies of “discovery” (evidence) from the prosecution and was ready to go.

“Your honor, I know this is kind of unprecedented, but we have got all the discovery in this case and we are just going to ask you to set it for trial at this point.”

Hirstein had earlier waived a preliminary hearing where Shelton would have heard the Decatur police evidence before deciding if there was probable cause to try the 43-year-old defendant.

He is pleading not guilty to charges of attempted murder, two counts of armed violence, two counts of aggravated domestic battery, four counts of domestic battery and one charge of criminal damage.

The judge then turned to State's Attorney Scott Rueter and asked him what charges he wanted to take first to trial. Rueter said the state would proceed on the attempted murder charge and one count of armed violence and aggravated domestic battery.

Shelton asked if he would be ready for a June trial date setting but Rueter said that was moving too fast for the attempted murder and other trial charges that date to events that happened March 30, with an arraignment hearing that was held less than a month ago.

“As new as this is, and with counsel asking for trial right off the preliminary hearing, I would ask for the July trial date,” Rueter told the judge.

Shelton then set the case to go to trial on Monday, July 17, before Presiding Judge Thomas Griffith.

Hirstein appeared in court Wednesday with his left arm encased in some kind of medical dressing, the dressing covering wounds he had received when police shot him.

Body cam footage released by police showed Hirstein bursting out of a bathroom of his girlfriend's home in the 400 block of East Orchard Street and hurling a knife at police while clutching knife in his other hand.

Police said officers opened fire to protect themselves, hitting Hirstein multiple times but not inflicting any serious wounds. The use of deadly force was investigated by the State Police and, based on their report, Rueter later ruled the shooting was “legally justified.”

Sworn affidavits said Hirstein's 35-year-old girlfriend had been stabbed multiple times after intervening to stop the defendant from attacking her 14-year-old son. The girlfriend is quoted as saying her son was targeted because he had told Hirstein to stop hitting his mother.

Hirstein remains in the custody of the Macon County Jail with bail set at $1.085 million, meaning he must post a bond of $108,500 to be freed.

The Homicide and Personal Protection Police Station (DHPP) of Canoas in Rio Grande do Sul is investigating who is responsible for the dismemberment of a still unknown woman, whose remains were filmed inside a bathroom.

Last Saturday, the crime scene was discovered by the Civil Police and Military Brigade in a residential condominium in the Rio Branco neighborhood. Operation Gota D'Água was launched jointly by the DPHPP and the 15th BPM. More than 25 civil and military police officers complied with six precautionary measures

"She tried to simulate him signing it. He already entered the bank dead", explains delegate Fábio Luiz.", explained officer Fábio Luiz.

At the police station, the woman said that her routine was to take care of her uncle, who was weak. The police are investigating whether she is actually related to him.

Conversation with the corpse

A video, taken by bank attendants, shows that she was constantly trying to keep the man's head straight, using her hand and talking to the supposed relative – who, of course, did not respond .

"Uncle, are you listening? You need to sign. If you don't sign it, there's no way. I can't sign for you, I'll do what I can do”, says the woman.

She shows the document and states that he had to sign it the way it was there and says: “You hold your chair very strong there. Didn't he hold the door there just now?”, he asks the attendants, who say they didn't see him.

"Sign so you don't give me any more headaches, I can't take it anymore", she says.

At that moment, the employees try to intervene and one of them comments on the man's paleness: "He's not well, no. His color isn't staying..."

"But that's just how he is," replies the supposed niece.

The woman responds: "He doesn't say anything, that's just how he is. Uncle, do you want to go to UPA again?", she asks, always without an answer.

At around 7pm, the woman was still giving her statement at the police station. The police are investigating whether she committed theft through fraud or fraud.

The police want to understand whether other people helped her commit the crimes and are looking for security footage. The elderly man's body was taken to the Legal Medical Institute.

"The main thing is: we continue the investigation, so we can identify other family members, and find out if he was alive when this loan was made, what is the date of this loan", explains the officer.

EFFORTPOST Sydney stabbing, background and aftermath

The Sydney church stabbing was a stabbing done in April 15, 2024 against church goers which injured 7 (including the suspect) and includes the Assyrian Christian bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel.

The person who committed the attack was a 15-year old who currently hasn't been identified.

Background:

Bishop Wakely has an Assyrian Christian church community located in Sydney which mostly has members of the Iraqi and Syria Christian group. The bishop is considered very controversial with his views on the Covid lockdown and the vaccines, LGBT topics, and Islam. Many clips of him stating his sentiments on such like Mohammed is all around social media and has garnered him controversy.

Attack:

The attack happened on April 15, 2024 around 7:00 PM during one of the Bishop's sermons, the assailant who went into wearing a black jumper went up to the bishop and stabbed him repeatedly before stabbing the other church goers afterwards. After the police arrived and the assailant was subdued the Bishop, according to Charbel Saliba, Deputy Mayor of Fairfield, put his hand over the assailant and stated "May the Lord Jesus Christ save you".

After being apprehended by church goers waiting for police to arrive the assailant reportedly smiled about the attack as shown here:

Aftermath:

One of the immediate reactions was Christians near-by the church rioted outside chanting "Bring him out" and other slogans as shown here:

Riots endured for a long while with almost a hundred riot police having to be deployed at the church, many of which had to use pepper spray against the rioters. After which a police helicopter encircled the area as it was shouting on a speaker for the rioters to disperse the area. Police operations ended before 1:00 am on 16 April.

The attack was condemned by other religious leaders, groups and organisations including the Australian National Imams Council and the Executive Council of Australian Jewry following a meeting with New South Wales Premier Chris Minns, who also expressed sympathies with victims and emergency services and called for calm.

After being taken into police custody it was found out that he was already on the police's radar.

The assailant was abused by the police after being put into custody, reportedly, his fingers were chopped off as pictured:
