Context: my tooth way growing the wrong way so they had to cut open my gums and chizzle down the bone and got the tooth out a little.

Diagnosis : gunshot fragmentation tangential non-penetrating cranial wound of the right parietal region, gunshot depressed fracture of the right parietal bone, type IV contusion lesion of the right parietal lobe, acute subdural hematoma in the right fronto-parietal-temporal region 50 cm3. Shrapnel wound of the right ear.

Completed : early postoperative surgical treatment of a gunshot craniocerebral wound.

The tourniquet was missing. In his words: I took it off about an hour ago.

Bleeding was initially absent, but after hemodynamic stabilization, pulmonary arterial blood flow resumed. The bleeding vessels were on the surface and it was decided to bandage them and spare the limb, not to tighten the tourniquet/tourniquet again.

• final stop of bleeding by ligation of bleeding vessels

• wound care, closure with a hemostatic bandage, fixation of the PPI

• ceftriaxone 2g IV

• EA solution

• total: NaCl, Sterofundin - 700ml

• protection of the stump with a flexible splint

• placing a provisional tourniquet on the forearm

• before evacuation, fixation of the left upper limb with a scarf bandage

BP 105/70, heart rate 100 (pulse in peripheral arteries can be counted even with the naked eye on video)

The wounded man was transported safely and without complications to the further stage of evacuation.

The parasite Toxoplasma Gondii - sometimes shorten to T. gondii is one of the most common parasites, infecting around approximately one third of the population.

There are 3 main genotypes (type I, type II, and type III) of T gondii! These differ in their prevalence in people. For example, type II genotype is responsible for most cases of toxoplasmosis in the US & Europe!

….But what Is Toxoplasmosis?

Toxoplasmosis is a disease caused by T. gondii, which is ‘relatively' safe for most the population. Toxoplasmosis can infect most warm-blood creatures (yes, including humans) but is most known for its prevalences in cats - which is why sometimes it's referred to as a “crazy cat lady” disorder.

symptoms?

As one of the world's most successful parasites doctors have found an array of symptoms. Most commonly:

• flu like symptoms (headaches, fever, fatigue)

• lung issues similar to tuberculosis

• vision problems

• muscle weakness

• poor coordination

As well there is evidence of Schizophrenia, OCD, BPD, and Depression being caused by Toxoplasmosis, this being even worse in those infected who are pregnant. Speaking of which, pregnant infected patients are shown to transfer said disorder, along with more severe versions of the symptoms to their babies, known as congenital toxoplasmosis.

(PLEASE NOTE: NOT ALL PEOPLE WHO CARRY THE DISORDER HAVE SYMPTOMS!)

why is the disorder linked to cats?

Here's the hard part…

Why are cats the biggest carrier exactly? A number of reasons, actually. Essentially the parasite is common in pest - such as mice and rats. Cats love these little buggers, and it's common for them to pick the parasite up from eating them. (this is why it's much more common in stray cats / those allowed outside than house cats - though it's still a somewhat common occurrence in house cats) Luckily this isn't proven to harm your cat.

However, it's important to note felines are the only main host of Toxoplasma gondii. It needs a cat to reproduce and infect other creatures. Once inside the cat it infects their faeces which allows the cycle to continue (pest eats cat shite, cat eats pest, ect ect)

Toxoplasmosis has additional odd properties related to felines, which circles back to “cat lady syndrome”. Essentially Scientist believe that humans and rodents infected by the disease are shown to change behaviour related to cats. Such as not being bothered by the smell of cat urine, being in cases drawn to the smell of cat fur & urine, making humans more adventurous, and even have a higher sex drive.

The idea? Scientist believe the disease evolved to keep the cycle going by making those infected more likely to eat cat faeces (where the disease originates) to keep the parasite alive. Additionally they believe that this evolution affects human behaviour as well! (Such as having humans reproduce to carry the disease for congenital reproduction)

If your schizophrenic and own a cat? Consider getting a T. gondii test! The link between Schizophrenia and Cats carrying toxoplasmosis is a peculiar thing — some studies show those who were exposed to cats as a kid were prone to develop toxoplasmosis infected schizophrenia, others find that a large percentage of people infected with toxoplasmosis who inhibit signs of schizophrenia own cats. Man. Maybe the reason so many people on here have cats is because of a brain parasite?

how to prevent Toxoplasmosis?

Toxoplasmosis spreads though two main methods, faeces (such as we discussed above with cats) and through types of meat! Mainly though cyst in the meat of animals effected!

This of course isn't the only way to get such a disorder - there is rare cases of getting it from a blood transfusion of those infected, as well from other animals faeces, and from unclean meat / food. The cycle is demonstrated below.

In laymen's terms? Erm… wash your hands? Not letting your cat on counter tops, being careful about the meat you consume, wearing gloves while working with faeces, not scooping litter while pregnant and of course not eating cat faeces is the main way to stop the spread of this odd disorder.
