"BERLIN taz | In the video recordings, Ella N. looks happy. "I wanted to start a new life," says the trans* woman who fled from Iran into the camera of the Offener Kanal Magdeburg. Ella has been living there for two years when the community radio station produces a short film about her life. In the film, Ella laughs a lot, confidently recounting her history of persecution. But when a friend says she is still full of zest for life despite all adversities, her radiance disappears. She briefly looks up at the ceiling, as if contemplating whether that's really true.
Two years later, on September 14, 2021, Ella N. silently pours gasoline over herself on Berlin's Alexanderplatz and sets herself on fire. For unknown reasons, someone films the burning 40-year-old; the video circulated on the internet in the following days. A department store employee rushes to help and extinguishes Ella's burning body with a fire extinguisher. But the injuries are too severe: Ella N. passes away on the same day at the Accident Hospital Berlin.
"I think she wanted to die as brutally and drastically as possible," says Georg Matzel. "Her death in this form was like shouting at someone who never wants to listen." On the phone, his voice sounds angry, sad, and bitter.
Matzel has accompanied Ella for several years. He volunteers at the Rainbow Connection, a support center for queer refugees run by the Lesbian and Gay Association of Saxony-Anhalt (LSVD). And he has become a good friend to her. When Ella needs a place to sleep, they live together in his apartment. Now Matzel, like other activists in the queer scene, wants to tell Ella's story."

CHINA The Chinese man decided to commit suicide or protest something. He poured gasoline on himself and set himself on fire right in the middle of the street. Thanks to the quick reaction of passers-by, he was extinguished relatively quickly and suffered only minor burns.

An elderly woman and her daughter died after a fire broke out in an apartment on Bannergatta Road in Bengaluru's Devarachikkanahalli.

The body of this woman was burnt by three men and found still burning on Wednesday 28th February 2024, in Morada da Colina neighborhood, Resende. The victim's name has not been identified yet.
From the Military Police, according to them, her body was found by a normal citizen who was heading to her home, located on Estrada da Limeira.
